Lewis L. Metts, Ph.D.

Lewis L. Metts, Ph.D., is President, Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board and co-founder of Taxolog, Inc., as well as a member of the Board of Directors of MDS Research Foundation and Syncure, Inc. He has over 33 years of combined experience in management and chemistry, with over 14 years experience in pharmaceuticals. He is a visionary leader exhibiting extraordinary creativity in research and development, manufacturing and management. Dr. Metts has compiled an outstanding reputation and record of achievement throughout North America and the United Kingdom.

Dr. Metts received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1964 at Mississippi College. He went on to further his education by earning a Doctorate of Philosophy in organic chemistry at Florida State University. Dr. Metts also studied abroad at the prestigious INSEAD business school in Fontainebleau, France, where he took advanced management courses.

After completing his doctorate in 1970, Dr. Metts was employed as Department Manager and Group Manager at Parke-Davis Company, where he supervised over 125 section managers and chemical operators engaged in developing new specialty chemical products. In 1983, he joined Whatman, Inc., and quickly rose through the ranks from Vice President of Operations to Global Chief Executive and finally as President. In 1997, he and colleague Robert A. Holton co-founded Taxolog, Inc., due to their dedication to the development and commercialization of new drugs for the treatment of a variety of cancers. Also in 1997, Dr. Metts became the first director of MDS Research Foundation, a public charity specializing in the support of research.
